FORT MYERS: The cleanup and recovery for storms the size of the tornadoes that impacted five states on Friday could take weeks. And this scale of devastation could overwhelm small communities.
Luckily, help is on the way. President Joe Biden said his administration would “provide whatever is needed” for cities hit by severe weather and deadly tornadoes Friday night. In addition to that, Marco Patriots are heading to Mayfield, Kentucky.
Knowing that families lost everything, for the Marco Patriots, it was no question that they needed to make the trip to Kentucky. They say it is their calling.
The Marco Patriots will be bringing their relief trailer with cooking equipment. They’re prepared to cook and distribute meals to the citizens of Mayfield.
Matt Melican is the co-founder of the Marco Patriots and says they’re prepared to stay for as long as they’re needed. “Our individual teams are prepared for 72-hour deployments. Then we’ll rotate teams as we need to. We have several volunteers leaving from Florida, several from North Carolina. Potentially Texas and Louisiana, a lot of people are interested in helping,” said Melican.
A team has already been deployed to Kentucky. The team from Marco Island will leave on Monday.
